Do you want to know how to become a nurse? This is a career path that I had chosen after being a so-called professional student and trying out numerous jobs. I want to share with you some background information about my personal experience with the health care field. I would like to share with you what I had gone through before finally pursuing this rewarding career! I did not think about the nursing field or even how to become a nurse until much later in my schooling. I had enrolled in college at the age of 15. I became a full-time early admission student after my junior year of high school. I began taking undergraduate courses following the “pre-pharmacy” track. This consisted of basically every science and math class in my undergraduate degree program. At the time it was my father that persuaded me to become a pharmacist. My interest in the math and science classes kept me going in this direction.
While pursuing the pre-pharmacy track, I had thought about the career of nursing and would wonder how to become a nurse. There were several programs at the time surrounding me such as a bachelors degree program track and an associates in science degree in nursing track. I had looked at the prerequisites which included the highest math class of college algebra and just one semester of chemistry. At that time I had already completed calculus, physics and chemistry including the first semester of organic chemistry. Because I was so far ahead in college and confused with the different nursing programs out there, I had continued on the pre-pharmacy track.
The second time I did wonder about how to become a nurse was not until years later when I had decided to forget becoming a pharmacist, medical doctor, physical therapist, health care administrator and science teacher. I applied to pharmacy school and was placed on the waiting list. A backup plan I had was to enroll in a bachelors degree program in the Health Sciences. Unfortunately I did not come off the waiting list and had to start the bachelors degree program. The first semester I had thought long and hard about becoming a pharmacist. I worked as a pharmacy technician and realized this wasn’t for me.
So it wasn’t until graduate school that I asked a family friend that was a nurse practitioner about how to become a nurse. I had been working on my masters degree in the health sciences and health care administration with plans to possibly go to medical school. Once again, I had realized the health care administrator career was definitely not exciting me. I was never able to sit still and would get anxiety if I had to sit in an office most of the day 8-5 and five days a week! I will never forget my mom saying to me, “how do you know you want to become a doctor when you never even have touched a patient!”. This statement made is what triggered me on investigating resources and searching for a set of guidance and instructions on how to become a nurse.
I had just revealed some background on myself but I did not exactly provide many answers on how to become a nurse. This is just the home page of my website. I created it with the intention on providing the audience with as many possible ways on how to become a nurse in addition to the different types of nurses and different types of college programs and schools. It really doesn’t matter what your background is and what kind of situation you may be in. The field of nursing is an exciting and rewarding career for those with the passion for this. Nurses out in the workforce come from a variety of unique backgrounds including education and careers. Don’t be discouraged if have a completely different career or have pursued a degree in something entirely different. I myself started the first day of nursing school with no experience with patients and already with a masters degree!
